Bidding Adieu at IIT Delhi: The College Farewell Journey - Aniket Sharma

As I approach the end of my college days at IIT Delhi, I'm caught in a swirl of feelings. It's a mix of looking back at good times, looking ahead to what's next, and a bit of sadness as I think about saying goodbye. IIT Delhi isn't just a place where we study; it's like its own little world, buzzing with activity and dreams.

In this blog, I want to share what makes my college life special, focusing on the people I've met and the connections I've made. It's not just about classes and exams; it's about the friends I've found, the love I've experienced, and the support I've received.

IIT Delhi, with its hostels and classrooms, has been more than just a campus to me. It's been a place where I've formed strong bonds and learned about life. As I reach the last stretch of this journey, I'm amazed at how this place became a world of its own, a little ecosystem.

As I reach the end of college, I think about the friendships that brought joy and strength. From the loud laughter at the night messes to the quiet support in the library during majors, these friendships stood by me through thick and thin. They're the ties that connect all the colorful moments of my college life, and looking back, I can't help but appreciate the beauty of this unique journey.

As I share my thoughts on love, friendship, and handling farewells, I hope to capture what makes my college journey at IIT Delhi special and give a nod to a place that has been the background for learning, growing, and forming lasting connections.

Strong Bonds: The Heart of College Life

I can't help but reflect on the incredible friendships that have made this journey unforgettable. These bonds, formed over the years, are like the heartbeats of my college experience, holding together a collection of memories that I'll carry forward.

During the COVID-19 era, when everything went virtual, I found friends in online classes and  groups. Despite the distance, these digital connections laid the foundation for something real. Meeting these friends face to face after a year of screens was like bringing online conversations to life. The struggles we shared during the pandemic became the glue that held us together in person.

Girnar Hostel became more than just a place to stay; it became a little family. Late-night chats, shared meals, and impromptu celebrations turned our hostel into a community where friendships could thrive. Girnar for me was not just a place to sleep; it was a community that made the vast campus feel small and familiar.

In my classes, the challenge of understanding machines turned into a shared adventure. Working on group projects and learning together created bonds that went beyond the classroom.

Then there were those moments that didn't fit into any category—the spontaneous gatherings for cricket matches, rendezvous, and the simple joy of sharing chai at nescafe. These everyday experiences became part of the bigger picture of my college life.

Love in College

In college, love isn't just about romance. At IIT Delhi, love takes many forms—beyond romantic relationships. It's in the friendships, the guidance from mentors, and the self-discovery through challenges.

Mentor-student relationships add another layer of love—built on trust, guidance, and respect. These connections extend beyond the classroom, shaping not only academic skills but also the emotional understanding needed for life after college.

Romantic love also finds a place in college life. The shared experiences, from attending classes to celebrating successes and facing challenges, create a strong foundation for lasting romantic relationships. When I started college, I was excited but also nervous. In the middle of all the assignments and exams, thinking about love seemed like a far-off idea. But in the middle of the busy college life, I was lucky enough to find someone who became a constant support. Our journey had its challenges, but we built a strong connection that helped us navigate through tough times. Himadri became a place of comfort, where the smell of chai mixed with the sounds of laughter.

College is a rollercoaster, and having someone to share the ups and downs makes it all the more exciting. From celebrating victories to comforting each other during tough times, our love became a steady anchor.

Dealing with goodbyes:

Saying goodbye at the end of college hits hard. It's like closing a favorite book, knowing you can't read those pages again. This farewell is tough, especially with friends who've been like family.

The mix of emotions is like a rollercoaster – the joy of shared moments, the sadness of leaving it behind, and the excitement of what's next. College friends become your backbone, your go-to people. But now, you're all headed in different directions. Handling goodbyes is like walking a tightrope. It's tough to let go of the past, the laughs, the late-night talks. The place that felt like a second home is now a memory. But it's also the start of something new.

Saying goodbye isn't just a "see you later." It's a step toward growing up. It's tough, but it's part of the journey. These farewells aren't endings; they're beginnings (hopefully). The friends and support system from college become a part of your mental toolkit, helping you face whatever comes next.

So, as we wave goodbye to this chapter, we carry the strength of these ties. The friendships and bonds formed during college stay with us, guiding us through the maze of the future. Goodbyes are tough, but they're also a launchpad for what's to come – armed with the lessons and connections that psychology tells us make us stronger and more resilient.

The end of an important chapter

As I reflect on my time at IIT Delhi, I realize it's more than just completing academic milestones. It's a mix of feelings, a collection of memories, and proof of how social connections matter. Now, as I look ahead to the next part of my journey, I feel ready thanks to the mental strength I gained here. The friendships I made at IIT Delhi are like a constant thread in the fabric of who we are becoming. Goodbye, IIT Delhi. You're not just a college; you've been a place of learning, friendships, and lasting connections.
